As part of the Olympic Legacy Scheme, every primary school receives government funding to enhance and develop the quality of physical education, school sport, and physical activity. For the academic year 2025/2026, St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School was allocated £19,190.

During the previous academic year, St Thomas’ participated in a wide range of Medway Mini Youth Games competitions, achieving an impressive 11th place out of 66 participating schools. This success reflects the commitment, enthusiasm, and sporting abilities of our pupils.

We also continued to develop opportunities for children through a programme of competitions, enabling pupils from different year groups and of all genders to compete  in a variety of sporting activities. As a result, the vast majority, if not all, of our Key Stage 2 pupils participated in at least one competitive event during the year.

Swimming remains an important aspect of our PE provision. At the end of Year 6, 80% of pupils left the school as competent swimmers, having met the expected national standard.

In addition to providing sporting opportunities and competitive experiences, our funding is used to purchase and maintain high-quality sports equipment and resources, as well as appropriate storage solutions. This ensures that pupils have access to safe, engaging, and effective equipment that supports the delivery of a broad and balanced PE curriculum.
