Welcome to Year 2!

Time to have fun in year 2.

This is a busy year with lots to find out about

God’s wonderful world.

We will continue to work on the creative curriculum, this will help us to enrich our minds and gain a love of life-long learning.

Our topic work will encapsulate music, computing, art and design. The children will learn about the basic needs of animals including humans for survival and explore how animals have offspring which grow up into adults. We will learn about different pets. We will create artwork related to animals using a range of different medium and styles too. Also, we will create our own animal pictures using the paint program in computing.

We will consider Remembrance Day and the significance of wearing a poppy. We will create water colour paintings depicting scenes from WW1 and explore music from the era of WW1. We will also have a WW1 dress up day where we will role play activities outlining what life would have been like during WW1. Later in the year we will find out about China and Africa, through a vast array of multicultural texts.

Reading at home is an integral part of learning. We love to hear about all the fabulous authors you discover from all over the world. We will further develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of all number bond up to 20 including further developing their quick recall in both practical and written ways and ensuring the children can apply this knowledge to their calculations. We will explore place value and practice all four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and subtraction through problem solving activities to develop fluency and reasoning skills as well as providing opportunities to master all areas of the Year 2 National Curriculum programme through a breadth of study. We will be exploring fictional texts through role play and spoken language to help the children to sequence stories and write descriptions including interesting and more ambitious vocabulary.

We will also be continuing with ‘Big Writing’ from Year 1 to continue to foster the children’s love of creative writing and further develop their stamina for extended pieces.
